Market Systems Development in Fragile Contexts – Iraq

Our consultants were engaged by the Danish Refugee Council to demonstrate the potential of the market systems development (MSD) approach in supporting durable solutions and sustainable livelihoods for displaced populations in fragile contexts.

The assignment included:
• Designing an MSD-focused nexus implementation plan based on market system analyses of selected sectors.
• Assessing team capacity to deliver MSD programming in complex, conflict-affected settings.
• Delivering tailored training and mentoring for local staff on MSD principles, market analysis, facilitation tactics, and adaptive management.

The project aimed to build institutional capability within DRC Iraq to apply MSD approaches in protracted crisis settings.
